Mom’s Eulogy
For those who could not make the funeral, just thought we would share the eulogy with you - so you too can continue Mom's legacy:
Today, as we gather to honor the life of Rejeanne, Jeannie and Raeann extend their heartfelt gratitude for your presence here. Rejeanne would be touched to see all of you joining together to commemorate her life. She had an unwavering belief that this occasion should be a celebration of the full and rich life she lived, urging us not to mourn her passing but to cherish the moments she shared with each one of us.
If Rejeanne were among us today, she would want you all to know that she held a deep affection for every soul present here. She found joy in witnessing the diverse adventures of your lives and the growth of the little ones amongst us. Each of you contributed something unique to her life, whether through shared moments or by being a part of her journey at various stages. Her love for her community and her family were the cornerstones of her existence, leaving an indelible mark on all of us.
Rejeanne delighted in recounting the tale of the Sisters of Mercy planting a garden in Windham She would fondly recall the amusing incident of a new sister, quite unprepared for the dirt, arriving in pristine white attire and inquiring about carrots growing in bunches like those at the grocery store. Rejeanne, with her quick wit, would jest that they must remember to plant the elastics at the end of the row for carrots to grow in bunches.
For those who knew Rejeanne between 1983 and 2008, she was always seen in the company of one of her children. From adopting Jeannie and Raeann to fostering 50 children over 25 years, she often remarked that this endeavor was her way of offering these children a second chance at life. Her daughters cherish memories of the foster care kids, from Fr. Angelo’s reminders in Church that Mom should not be baptizing the children in the sink, to heartwarming moments like the twins Raymond and Anthony holding hands in the crib. Rejeanne's nurturing spirit extended beyond infancy, as she guided parents on caring for their children, creating an environment brimming with love and smiles at the Keeley home. Her pride in witnessing the growth of individuals like Eddie and April into compassionate and generous individuals was immeasurable. Many still refer to her as Mama Jean, a testament to the impact she made on their lives.
Every 4th of July, 72 Davis Rd opened its doors wide, welcoming friends, Neighbors In Need employees, and family to enjoy in good food, laughter, and the spectacle of fireworks. Her home was always an open haven for anyone seeking warmth and camaraderie.
Rejeanne's dedication to Neighbors In Need for two decades exemplified her commitment to serving the hungry. Despite her initial lack of knowledge about running a nonprofit, her unwavering determination to alleviate hunger led to the growth of a program that now feeds thousands, thanks to the tireless efforts of countless volunteers and employees. She remained deeply thankful for everyone who supported her, whether present today or passed on.
Rejeanne’s legacy is one of love and a strong sense of community, a legacy Jeannie and Raeann urge us to carry forward wherever life may lead us.
To her cherished friends and family, emulate her by spreading love and kindness, extending a helping hand to those in need.
To her beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Abby, always hold dear the memory of your Grammy who cherished you dearly. Her love will forever envelop you, guiding you through life's journey.
To her sons-in-law, know that Rejeanne admired your dedication and unwavering love to her daughters Jeannie and Raeann. She found pride in your commitment to their well-being and happiness.
And to her daughters – remember, you were the heartbeat of her existence. Her pride in your accomplishments knew no bounds, and she eagerly awaits witnessing your continued growth and success. Honor her legacy by standing by each other, keeping her memories alive through shared stories, and nurturing her enduring spirit.
As we all say farewell, we leave you with the immortal words their mom always penned: Love and God Bless.
